MTTC's
new practical, hands-on computer repair certification
December
29, 2000, Louisville Kentucky: The first two students have made the grade for MTTC's
new PC Repair Technician Certification. MTTC administers this unique test in an isolated
room, using a dismantled computer and a set of repair tools. The candidate must fully
assemble the computer, load and configure software and send a successful e-mail message to
signal the test completion. MTTC awards the certificate only after the computer
passes an inspection for overall quality and proves free from hardware and software
errors.
Dale
Winningham and Michael Robinson are the first individuals to earn MTTC's PC Repair
Technician Certification after assembling a computer from a box of parts. Both Dale and
Michael, prior to receiving the PC Repair Technicians Certification, graduated from
MTTCs A+ Computer Repair Course and Benchwork Tech. Dale has passed CompTIAs
A+ core exam and will take the second part of the A+ test in January. He mentioned that
the MTTC Certification has helped his confidence on the job, where he refurbishes laptop
computers. Michael is scheduled to complete the A+ test next week.
According
to Bill Keatting, MTTC instructor, "This is a hands-on test for PC troubleshooting
and repair. It is the only certification that we know of that shows whether or not PC
Repair graduates can put what they've learned to practical, real world use." Industry
feedback confirms that the MTTC training is developing the top PC repair technicians in
the area. Until now, the only standard for PC repair technicians has been CompTIA's A+
certification, an in-depth computer knowledge test. MTTC has gone one step further to
develop a certification based on assessing hands-on repair skills.
