August
24, 2000 Louisville KY: The Manufacturing Technology Transfer Center (MTTC), a
U.S. Navy sponsored facility, was officially renamed the McConnell Technology &
Training Center in recognition of Senator Mitch McConnell, a primary supporter of this
innovative, technology training and business assistance center in Louisville.
Kentuckys senior senator and his staff resolved many issues in Washington D.C. to
ensure that the MTTC has continued success and sufficient resources to fulfill its
mission.
The renaming of the Center marks a new era of growth for
MTTC. It currently provides regional leadership in finding technology solutions for
organizations, workforce development, and skills training. Its programs in computer
technologies, electronic commerce, industrial skills training, quality management, and
technology transfer are well known in the region.
The Louisville Fire & Rescue Pipes
and Drums provided
music for the dedication ceremony. |

The Navy has awarded Innovative Productivity, Inc.,
the non-profit corporation that manages the MTTC, an extended contract to pioneer
additional new programs for the region. MTTC is expanding its role in finding innovative
solutions and additional cost savings for the U.S. Navy fleet.
Innovative Productivity, Inc. president Ray Zavada noted
that Senator McConnell has been an early and consistent supporter of the MTTC. "The
efforts and interventions of the Senator and his staff with the federal bureaucracies
helped to make this a model center," says Zavada. "The entire country owes a
debt of gratitude for this commitment to excellence and accountability."
MTTC estimates that it has already implemented changes that
will save the Navy more than 300 million dollars over the next decade. Most savings will
result from applying innovative technologies to reduce maintenance costs throughout the
Navy fleet.
