June 6, 2000;
Louisville, KY- Each year the Rotary International Foundation encourages
Rotary Club districts to sponsor a Group Study Exchange (GSE) with another country. This
international exchange project encourages worldwide goodwill and understanding. The
Western Kentucky Rotary district sent a group of Kentuckians to the Republic of Muldova
during April and May. Muldova, an Eastern European nation, established their independence
from Russia in 1991.
After the Kentucky group returned home, an
exchange group consisting of medical, computer, and banking professionals from Muldova
came to Kentucky. The GSE group from Muldova toured Kentucky for one month, visiting area
business and civic organizations.
The staff at MTTC was asked to share information
with the Muldova GSE group relating to the use of computers to develop businesses and
communities. MTTC is coordinating an effort to send some refurbished laptop computers to
Muldova to benefit community help projects.
To continue their goodwill efforts, the Western
Kentucky Rotary district is planning international exchanges with India and The
Netherlands in 2001.
