The Outreach Computer Resources class
provides an opportunity for people to learn about and take home their own computer. The
low cost of the class makes computers available to virtually anyone that wants a computer
in their home. |

16, 2000; Louisville & Lexington, KY- "It's too good of a program to keep
just in Louisville," Marshall Bramble said as he loaded another computer into the
van. Marshall is the manager of the Outreach Computer Resources (OCR) program in
Louisville, Kentucky. As the last of 18 computers were set in the cargo area, Marshall
closed the liftgate and announced, " We're off to Lexington." This van was not
only delivering computers to Lexington, Kentucky, it was also exporting MTTC's extremely
successful program to its new extension location.
Since 1997, OCR in Louisville has been placing
low-cost computers into the homes of families that did not have access to a computer or
the Internet. Now, this class is offered in Lexington, giving Kentuckians another location
to find a computer and training for minimal costs. The OCR program relies on computers
that are donated by regional businesses and individuals. The donated computers are
refurbished and upgraded with new software, speakers, CD drive and monitor. Three hours of
training is provided along with the computer for students registered in the OCR class.
MTTC has partnered with Clark Communications Corporation, of Lexington, to offer this
unique program in Lexington. Bobby Clark, President of Clark Communications, states,
" We have to begin building a stronger community. We believe that getting computers
and training into homes throughout this region will help ensure a brighter future for all
