UNREP Phone/Distance Line:
Concept proposals have been received. A winning proposal will be selected in November 2002
and an order for 2 ship-sets will be awarded shortly thereafter.
ECOTherm High Temperature Insulation.
All shipboard testing has been completed and final laboratory tests should be completed in
the near future. A test report is being written and will be used by NAVSEA for a
determination regarding fleet use.
Distiller Anti-Scale. Land
based tests, using the new injector and solution, are ongoing at NSWC
Carderock/Philadelphia.
Boat Davit Improvements.
Brake lining and corrosion abatement efforts are proceeding rapidly. New brake lining
materials have been identified and are undergoing evaluation. Technical Manual changes
reflecting revised adjustment procedures will be completed shortly. Davit drawings are
being updated to include corrosion resistant materials in those areas that have been
identified as problems. This effort is expected to complete by 31 December 2001.
Vertical Package Conveyors.
All equipment has been procured and is being integrated. Two different light curtain
concepts have been obtained and are undergoing testing.Programmable Logic Computer
programming is ongoing. A fully integrated system will be tested at the Land-Based
Engineering Site in the near future.
Composite
Connectors. This project is now complete. Four wiring harnesses with composite
connectors have been delivered to the Inservice Engineering Agent (ISEA) at NSWC/Port
Hueneme Division/Louisville for on-mount testing. Some initial fit problems have been
realized and solutions are being investigated.
CIWS
Acutator Cam Pin. All Navy documentation has been received. General Dynamics
Armament Division has submitted a proposal for the required design, test and production. A
contract will be issued to GDAS in the very near future.
Speedwrap
Insulation. USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71) has received the test sections and
will self-install in accordance with the provided instructions. Status will be monitored
during the ship's deployment and the installation will be validated upon completion of the
deployment.
ArmaChek
Insulation Covering. NAVSEA is still reviewing the requirements in order to
confirm the validity of this project. A decision on whether to proceed is expected soon.
Laser
Induced Surface Improvement (LISI) of LCAC Lift Fan Blades. LISI coated samples
have recently been tested in the wind tunnel at the University of Cincinnati. Two blades
will be treated at the University of Tennessee and delivered to the Navy in mid-December.
They will be installed in an LCAC at Little Creek. Field testing will occur during the
LCACs deployment in 2002.
Electrospark
Deposition (ESD) In-situ repair of hydraulic rams. Test specimens, using Monel
400 on MonelK500 substrates are currently being produced at NSWC Carderock. After system
parameters are optimized, a submarine diving and control rod will be repaired in the lab.
This is expected to occur by 31 December 2001. An In-situ test will occur in 2002.
Remote
Valve Actuators: Testing of the Tri-Tec actuator has been suspended due to
continuing unresolved issues. While the Limotorque actuator demonstrated satisfactory
performance, a third actuator, by Target Rock, was tested by the Navy and has been found
to provide the greatest performance. The Navy/MTTC combined effort has resulted in the
identification of the ideal device for current and future needs.
Anti-Sweat
Paint: While the MTTC/ONR laboratory testing did not substantiate the claims of
the latex/ceramic paint, the Navy has decided to supplement these tests with instrumented
shipboard tests to confirm the tests and claims. These real-world tests will be conducted
in the near future.
