Self-Cleaning Strainers
Problem: Conventional strainers used in various shipboard piping systems require frequent maintenance, are labor intensive, result in system downtime and can be hazardous to personnel and machinery. Solution: Under the COSSI program, the Navy has been funded to operationally test the Spencer Self-Cleaning Strainer. Tests are ongoing onboard USS DULUTH (LPD-6). Upon completion of these tests, the strainer will require shock, vibration and EMI testing to qualify for military use.
