Vibracon
Shock Tests
Problem: Huge amounts
of maintenance resources are required to mount shipboard equipment
accurately. Vibracon adjustable chocks have been used in NATO Navies for
many years. They have not been shock qualified for use in the U.S. Navy.
Solution: Subject the
Vibracon chock to several representative, high stress shock
applications. Results from these tests could be extrapolated to other
sizes and weight ranges. |

Benefits
Estimated Navy
Cost Avoidance:
Minimum annual:
$3,150 K
Minimum 15 Year:
$47,250 K
Fleet Impact: These
cost avoidances are based only on pumps and compressors. Nearly all
auxiliary equipment would ultimately be users. Jet Blast Deflectors
and catapult trough covers are immediate uses on aircraft carriers.
Ultimate potential is extensive. |
Status:
Pending
Upon
award of contract to NSWC/Philadelphia, a minimum of two pumps and a
compressor will be barge-shock tested using Vibracon chocks as the
leveling and hold-down devices. These applications were chosen in
order to permit extension of shock approval to other systems of
equivalent weight and moment.
Applications:
All
classes of ships.
