Superbolt

(Multi-Jackbolt Tensioner)

Problem: Many shipboard applications require high-torque nuts that are easy to install and remove. Superbolt was desired but was not shock qualified for fleet use.

Solution: MTTC conducted shock testing to highest levels. Superbolt out-performed existing unitary nuts. Results extended to other tensioner materials and sizes.

Minimum 15 Year:   $14,625 K

Fleet Impact: Sailors and yard workers are now able to perform maintenance much quicker with smaller common tools. This device is most efficiently used in confined locations with tight tolerances and clearances.

U.S. Navy has purchased over 1,000 Superbolts to date. (Official approval less than 1 year old). Use is expected to increase dramatically.
