Remote Valve
Actuators
Problem: Current electro-hydraulic and
electro-pneumatic actuators suffer from very low reliability and are maintenance
intensive. New, all-electric devices with high torques are now available, but unproven in
shipboard applications.
Solution: MTTC, in conjunction with COMNAVAIRLANT and
AMSEC, obtained and tested actuators from Tri-Tec, Inc., and Limitorque, Inc. on USS
GEORGE WASHINGTON and USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT. |

Fleet Impact: Reduced
crew sizes on all new ships require extensive use of high-reliability, remotely operated
controls. Use of these actuators will greatly improve controls and system reliability. |
