Anti-Sweat Paint

Problem: If not properly covered, cold metal surfaces in ships can produce condensate which results in liquid build-up, corrosion, and unnecessary cleanup requirements.

Solution: New commercially available "latex/ceramic" paints claim to significantly reduce condensation and corrosion. These products will be tested against existing standard Navy anti-condensate  paints.

Minimum annual:       $30 K

Minimum 15 Year:   $450 K

Fleet Impact: There is currently a great deal of confusion by Fleet personnel and engineers about these Ceramic products. This project will quantitatively determine the validity of the manufacturer's claims.

Status: Complete

The MTTC-sponsored testing at Naval Research Laboratory has been completed. Based on these results the Navy has decided to conduct additional testing onboard designated ships. This is ongoing and will be completed in 2002.
