Course Description
This course provides a comprehensive overview of foundational network security with industry-wide topics including: communication security, infrastructure security, cryptography, access control, authentication, external attack, and operational and organization security.   The course curriculum addresses all of the CompTIA Security+ certification exam objectives.

This course is for individuals with on-the-job networking experience who are seeking to advance their knowledge of information security and learn how to maintain the integrity of an organization’s communications, infrastructure, and operations.  Any IT professional who seeks to validate their knowledge of information security by earning the CompTIA Security + certification is the ideal candidate for this course.

After completing this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify internal and external security threats and mitigate their risks
  • Develop disaster recovery plans and security policies for an IT department
  • Set up and secure wireless networks
  • Understand network security concepts such as access control, authentication, and auditing
  • Identify and respond to different types of attacks and intrusion incidents
  • Set up Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
  • Identify infrastructure security tools & understand applications for different scenarios
  • Harden operating systems including servers and networks
  • Design incident response plans and teams
  • Use a variety of network hacking tools and know how to defend against those tools
  • Utilize forensic software tools for data recovery
  • Effectively combat internal and external hackers, attacks, and security threats

Prerequisites
Potential students should possess some on-the-job networking experience.  A typical candidate would have the CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent knowledge and some IT industry work experience.  The course is a good choice for network administrators, help desk technicians, network support technicians, field support technicians, and other IT professionals interested in advancing their knowledge of network security.  Anyone seeking the vendor-neutral Security+ certification is an ideal candidate for this course.
