A+ Computer Repair: A+ Certification Test Preparation
Course Description
This practical, hands-on course focuses on all aspects of computer troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, hardware installation, configuration, diagnostics and repair. The course also introduces students to local and wide area networks, interconnectivity and network infrastructure. The course curriculum addresses all of the most current CompTIA A+ certification exam objectives. More than an “exam cram”, this course gets students involved!
This course is an excellent choice for career starters, career changers, A+ certification candidates, and those seeking to advance their technology careers including computer service technicians, technical help desk staff, or office support staff. It is the perfect course for any PC owners who want to develop independent technical self-reliance.
After completing this course, students will be able to :
- Identify proper procedures to install & configure system components and devices
- Identify popular motherboard forms, types of memory, bus architectures, and the purpose of CMOS set-up memory
- Identify and configure computer monitors, CRT and LCD connectors (VGA, DVI/HDMi, S-Video)
- Upgrade and optimize laptops and portable devices
- Utilize basic networking concepts with wired and wireless hardware
- Identify characteristics of IT security tools such as firewalls, antivirus, passwords
- Identify safety and environmental issues
- Install Windows 2000 and XP Professional
- Explore Windows Vista
- Install and configure local and network printers on a Windows computer
- Use TCP/IP diagnostic utilities
- Troubleshoot Windows OS using the Recovery Console, System Restore
- Use good communication skills to effectively troubleshoot and support end users
- Configure and maintain static and dynamic network IP address types
- Manage various internal and external disk drive types in Windows
- Use job related professional behavior including respect for customers & their privacy
- Use Event Viewer, Performance Monitor, and Task Manager to monitor Windows
- Access preventative maintenance tools Backup, Updates, Defrag
Prerequisites
Prospective students should be experienced PC users having a familiarity with the Windows operating system and with basic PC architecture. Those lacking basic hardware knowledge are strongly encouraged to take MTTC’s Hands-On Introduction to PC Repair course (40 hours) before taking the A+ Computer Repair course.
