| First article testing has been completed. At-sea testing was successfully conducted on the USS CAMDEN (AOE-4) and USS BATAAN (LHD-5). The results are also applicable to Aircraft Carriers because they use the same distilling plant. Alteration drawings are being developed. All supporting procedures to support the SCD have been developed. |
|
|
Problem:
| The current anti-scale injector for shipboard flash-type distilling plant is very unreliable and cannot use the new concentrated solutions. If the injector fails, there is no way to detect it until the distiller fails and requires substantial maintenance.
|
Solution:
| MTTC, in conjunction with NSWCCD/NAVSSES Philadelphia, will design and test a new injector, derived from a commercial product. Land based and shipboard testing will confirm suitability. |
Fleet Impact:
| Fresh water is a vital commodity on ships and lack of it is a true morale issue. This project will substantially improve the reliability and maintainability of the numerous flash-type distilling plants in the fleet. |
Applications:
| All ships with Flash-type Distilling Plants (including SSNs, CVNs, others)
