The Navy has installed the Light Curtain and Auto-Oiler on all Aircraft Carriers. Simultaneously, they have approved a modified design for combatants. Procurement for that MachAlt is beginning. Testing at the Land-Based Test Site is ongoing. The procured materials will be shock-tested prior to installation.
Problem:
These complex, continuously moving conveyors are inherently dangerous to personnel and are maintenance intensive. So many safety cutouts and devices have been added over the years that it is virtually impossible to troubleshoot conveyor malfunctions.

Solution:
MTTC, in cooperation with NSWC Carderock Division Philadelphia will develop and test a computer based control system that will permit much more efficient safety interlocks, automatic lubrication and predictive maintenance.

Fleet Impact:
During the past 10 years, there have been several Sailor deaths and serious injuries from these conveyors. A computer based logic system will help prevent accidents and eliminate the need to perform some dangerous maintenance actions.

Applications:
All Surface Ships (200+ of various classes and types). Multiple systems per ship.
